Getting around Goa without losing half your holiday
Goa is bigger than it looks on the map and the distances eat days. How people actually move around, and what to arrange before you land.
The single biggest planning error in Goa is underestimating the map. Two beaches that look adjacent can be a long, slow drive apart, and the roads in season do not move quickly. How you get around shapes the trip more than the hotel does.
Arrange the airport transfer in advance
It is the one journey where you are tired, carrying bags and have no idea what anything should cost. Booking it ahead removes the whole negotiation and is the cheapest stress you will ever avoid.
Airport transfers — book your cabScooters: the default, with real caveats
Most visitors end up on two wheels, and for short hops between nearby beaches it is genuinely the best way to move. It is also how most holiday injuries happen. Roads are narrow, surfaces vary, and traffic will not behave the way you expect.
- Wear a helmet — for your head, and because it is the law
- Check what documents and licence your rental partner requires before you turn up
- Photograph the vehicle before you ride away, so damage disputes are short
- Do not ride at night on unfamiliar roads, and do not ride after a drink
Cars and drivers, for the long days
Anything that crosses between North and South, or takes you inland to the waterfalls and spice farms, is a car day. A driver costs more than a scooter and buys back the part of the day you would spend navigating and parking.

Pick one base per half of the trip and accept that you will not see everything. A holiday spent moving between hotels is a holiday spent packing. If the plan needs three bases, it needs more days.
